He is a graduate of the University of Michigan and the University of San Francisco School of Law, where he was president of the student body. He is a California State Bar Certified Criminal Law Specialist.  He has lectured around California and around the United States.  He has won awards and has authored books. He is prominent in all areas of criminal law, especially medical marijuana defense (CUA and MMPA) and “cybercrime” or computer crime (CFAA) defense.  He even has a Wikipedia entry. Attorney Jay Leiderman co-authored the first ever book on the legal defense of medical marijuana crimes and has been called the “Hacktivist’s Advocate” for his work defending those accused of computer crimes. He has been recognized and won awards for going above and beyond to represent clients accused of all sorts of crimes; from the smallest misdemeanor to the most serious felony case. Jay frequently takes on high-profile cases and is highly experienced in speaking with the media. He is a frequent commentator in print, on the radio and has even been on TV and in film speaking about his cases. Jay Leiderman is a California State Bar Certified Criminal Law Specialist. In addition to the California State Bar Exam and mandatory continuing legal education, to obtain his specialization Jay had to pass another specialization test, a rigorous peer and judge review screening process, have many additional hours of classroom continuing legal education, and have substantial practical experience. There are over 250,000 attorneys licensed to practice in California. According to the California State Bar, on June 16, 2008, there are under 500 Certified Criminal Law Specialists—a small and very elite group.
